Yоur doctor mау аlѕо аdjuѕt уоur insulin dosage or rесоmmеnd tаking inѕulin аftеr a mеаl instead оf before eating. It’s always best to let him or her make the decision.

  • Pancreatitis

Vоmiting, аbdоminаl pain, аnd high triglусеridе lеvеlѕ оftеn ассоmраnу the nаuѕеа.  Mаintаining a low-fat, healthy diеt mау hеlр рrеvеnt or соntrоl раnсrеаtitiѕ. Avоiding аlсоhоl and ѕmоking may аlѕо help.

  • Artifiсiаl Swееtеnеrѕ and Sugar Alcohols.

Artificial Sweeteners

  1. Hey Rob,

I’ve really enjoyed reading this article as you’ve provided us with tons of valuable information. You’ve mentioned that food-borne bacteria can cause food poisoning. Does it mean that food poisoning can also cause nausea? Is that what it means or did I get it all wrong?

Thanks in advance for answering my question. Keep up the good work Rob!

    • Hey!

It’s always nice to know when I can provide valuable information. I appreciate it.

Diabetes can cause so many things including of course, nausea. It’s one of the things I personally hate most!

In answer to your question? Food poisoning can absolutely cause nausea! Food poisoning is NOT FUN!

The bottom line here is to try and control your diabetes because it can cause nausea.

I hope I answered your question and I thank you for your feedback 🙂

  2. I’ve been feeling nauseous for some couple of days and I’m at a loss to understanding the cause. I recently ran a blood sugar test and the result came back fine. I will have to go for a proper check up, but prior to that, I can make use of some of the natural remedies you made mention of, such as ginger and lemon essential oil.

Thanks for the help, love your blog!

    • Hey Louis,

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling nauseous. I hate that feeling!

It’s good to know that you don’t have diabetes and the best thing you can to is to stay healthy and avoid it at all costs!

There are several remedies for nausea and ginger ale is my favorite! But it’s always smart to check with your doctor and have blood work done regularly.

Eating healthy and exercising are about the two best things anyone can do to avoid things like diabetes and nausea.

Hope all works out and thank you!

  3. Hello Rob, thanks for writing on this topic. I could never have associated nausea with diabetes, mostly because I have not been around any diabetic patients before. I often attribute nausea to pregnancy (from my own experience), sickness etc. The causes of nausea you listed that are related to diabetes is an eye opener especially the causes that has to do with medication.

Your tips on how to treat nausea naturally are great, and I guess non diabetic patients suffering from nausea, maybe as a result of ulcer or other conditions can also apply these tips to reduce the feeling of nausea. Drinking ice-cold drinks is my favorite. I did more of that during early pregnancy stage.

    Thanks for your informative article.

    • Hi Gracen 🙂

Thankfully I’ve never had nausea from my diabetes as far as I know.

It’s not something I like AT all. But since diabetes can cause nausea, I still have to be aware of the fact that it could cause nausea.

But with diabetes, the best things we can do to avoid things such as nausea is to control diabetes by eating right and exercising.

And of course the medications that you take for diabetes can also cause nausea.

I also like drinking ice cold drinks, especially water.

I appreciate your comments. Thank you 🙂

  4. The feeling of Nausea is very terrible. I remember times when i had Nausea and always have the feeling to always want to vomit. The Nausea came especially if i didn’t eat for over a long period, then it comes with headaches. It interesting to know from your post that Nausea comes with Diabetes. I have noted the solutions you proffer for the treatment of Nausea. This would really be helpful not only for diabetes patients but even for ordinary persons who just have Nausea at one point or the other. Thanks for this educative post.

    • Hi Dapoach,

I couldn’t agree with you more. I hate that feeling so much! It can come suddenly and we may not know what it comes from.

Nausea doesn’t necessarily come from diabetes, but it is a possible cause.

Going without eating sometimes can sure cause nausea. There are a lot of possibilities.

But with diabetes you can certainly get nauseous and it’s treatable. I love ginger ale and it works wonders!

Thank you for sharing and for your comments! 🙂

  5. So much useful information in one article. Thank you so much! There are so many people suffering from diabetes and the more we get to understand the illness, the more equipped with information to help victims that we are. I have a mother in-law who is suffering from Diabetes and she would sometimes complain of nausea. Now that I know that the diabetes can cause nausea and know how to help her treat or prevent this nausea, we are better for it. This article has made me realize that I do not want to ever suffer from diabetes as I love very spicy foods. I also suffer from motion sickness, I now also know what to do to avoid or treat it.Great post.

    • Hey Vapz,

Thanks and you’re welcome! Knowledge is power and the more we know, the better off we are.

Nausea is NOT one of my favorite things for sure! It’s a horrible feeling and if diabetes doesn’t cause it, the medications can.

If we were all eating healthy and exercising, we wouldn’t have many of these problems.

Nausea can come from many things but we can eliminate one of the sources by avoiding diabetes.

Try to do the best you can!

      Thank you for commenting!

  6. Nausea is not a natural symptom for type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Instead its a reaction by the body to drugs and medication used in managing or curing diabetes . This is why its written on prescription drugs , what the likely reactions are.

In my opinion its better to know in advance the likelihood of a specific reaction to a particular medication. For example metformin is known for having nausea as its side effect in some cases.

    Reply
    • I happen to agree that medications definitely can cause nausea because they all have side effects.

But I feel that diabetes itself can cause nausea too.

It is something that can cause all kinds of issues to our body when you have it.

The best thing you can do is to eat healthier and exercise and control your diabetes!

That is the most beneficial way to control nausea and every other symptom.

      Thank you for sharing 🙂

  7. Thank you for this wonderful information. From your article, I came to find out other causes of nausea that are not diabetes related. I don’t have diabetes but I do have nausea times because I usually lie down immediately after meals and that’s way too wrong. This article has helped me to identify the cause of feeling nauseous and ways to handle or prevent it.

    • Hey Kenechi,

You’re welcome! Nausea isn’t always caused by diabetes. But diabetes can cause nausea for sure.

Learning what causes nausea helps you to help treat and prevent it.

But folks with diabetes should try to keep their diabetes under control to prevent nausea from happening in the first place.

Glad to hear that you don’t have diabetes! But try ginger ale for nausea. It always worked wonders for me!

      Appreciate your feedback! Thank you!

  8. Thanks for the article. Nausea always make my cousin to fall sick mostly when she is traveling by vehicle or by sea. People that are in the river areas do not normally feel nausea because they are used to the rivers but people that are not used to land when they travel by land they feel the nausea. Not brushing your teeth too can cause nausea.

    • Hey Chris,

You’re welcome! I have to tell you that nausea is one of the worst things in my opinion.

And I remember a few times as a kid being on a boat and with the ocean waves I was not doing well!

I will do anything to avoid getting nauseous and that means staying off boats!

But having diabetes is another reason you could have nausea.

The best way to avoid it when you have diabetes is to keep in under control.

  9. I experienced nausea many times. I fear nausea symptom with very much unpleasant feeling, It was unfortunately that  medication caused nausea with me. I healed my nausea learning from a traditional way from my family, with having herbs, ginger, or lime juice in warm water. The key is to get the feeling in my stomach. The information in the website is very helpful so I now am aware how to prevent nausea. Thanks very much for combine information altogether. It is very useful.

    • Hey Taviwan 🙂

I have too experienced nausea and I absolutely HATE it!

It’s one of the worst feelings ever. And diabetes can most certainly cause nausea.

When I was a kid, my mom always gave me ginger ale and to this day I rely on it for comfort!

Nobody likes that feeling of nausea and if you’re a diabetic, then the best thing you can do is to keep your diabetes under control.

      Thank you for sharing 🙂
