The End of Diabetes

The goal behind Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book is to reverse and end diabetes by changing to and following a plant based diet. The premise behind this book is that diabetes is caused by refined sugars and grains, and having a diet consisting of animal fat (and red meat), and oils (fats).

By following a high nutrient density plant-based diet which provides the perfect nutrients that your body requires and needs, it can change your body and health by cutting your medications in half after the first week. It can additionally reduce more medications in the first thirty days and most people might typically be off all their medications within six months.

Additional claims are that blood sugars are steady, with no lows or highs and the need for insulin would be no longer within seven days. And to continue following Dr. Fuhrman’s diet, you would live a normal life again without any complications.

My End of Diabetes Review

Diabetes doesn’t have to cut your life short if you don’t let it. And that’s the motive behind The Eat to Live Plan. Dr. Fuhrman shows you how to get off your medications and help to avoid ailments such as blindness, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney failure, liver problems, and other issues and diseases that could be life threatening at some point.

His plan is not only just about getting your general health in order, it’s about monitoring your blood sugar levels, limiting your carb intake, and not only taking control of your diabetes but your life as well. He talks about how eating affects your body and your life. It basically comes down to consuming foods with a high nutrient density. This turns your body into a powerhouse healing system that results in significant health improvement, weight loss, and to the final goal of ending diabetes and other diseases as well.

We all know that we are what we eat, right? By following the end of diabetes plan you will lose weight and start to feel better and start to stop your medications. (All with your doctor’s approval of course) This may or may not be a shock to your body, depending on how you’re currently eating. For the most part it will be a big change in your eating lifestyle. It was for me.

This isn’t just about following the plan and eating the foods on this plant based diet. I learned so much in reading this book. Knowledge is power and the more you know about your body and diabetes and how it works for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the better off you will be. I found that the personal histories of his patients that are provided were awesome because let’s face it, this isn’t for everyone. Not everything is for everyone, is it?

Dr. Fuhrman discusses what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. It’s about eating a lot of vegetables which shouldn’t be a shock to you. If you follow the plan, it will work. But as much information as there is in his book, it all comes down to a decision. Because once you decide to do it and take that step toward the end of the diabetes finish line, you must take A-C-T-I-O-N! That’s the cold hard truth.

I couldn’t agree more with Dr. Fuhrman’s belief to eradicate rather than medicate. Natural foods are made for the body to be healthy. Eating your meals that are packed with nutrients such as beans, green vegetables, mushrooms, berries, and seeds are what’s going to make a colossal difference in your body.

He also suggests not eating in between meals, sticking with three meals a day, and eating about the same amount of calories at each meal. There is one thing in particular that the book talks about on pages 162-167 that I want to mention. It’s exercise. He talks about exercise being more important and beneficial than taking your medication. I thought that was very insightful and great advice.

Customer Reviews and Scores

I heard so much about Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s The End of Diabetes plan and after reading reviews, I decided that it was in my best interest to find out for myself.

There were 1,513 reviews at the time of my review and the average rating was 4.4 starts out of 5.

I found mostly positive reviews, but of course there are some negative points brought up. In one example a customer stated, ” It is not what I expected. I feel that maybe it should be called the Guideline to how to become  Vegan.” A second customer said, ” I didn’t find this diet suitable for my family. I did learn a few things from the book that I will use.”

These reviews didn’t sway me from buying the book because they didn’t seem to be a concern for others who stated, ” This is an informative book. It is worth reading and makes a great reference. It contains tons of information.” On another positive note this particular customer said, ” Excellent! It has great information and is backed by REAL SCIENCE!”

The Bottom Line

My conclusion in picking up The End of Diabetes by Dr. Joel Fuhrman is that I got tired of being diabetic and overweight. Sometimes you just come up against something and you just have to pull out all the stops and make a decision to find a way to end the misery. At least it was for me. My blood sugar has come down and while I won’t say that it’s the easiest thing to do in following the plan, it certainly is working.

I’m glad that I made the decision to purchase this book. The majority of consumers are happy and I know that it isn’t for everybody, but it is for me which is why I recommend it to others!

  1. This is an interesting review and I strongly believe people with diabetes should grab the book and digest the content for the benefits of their own health. Understanding the cause of the diabetes and that it has an answer to reverse is a blessing. In addition, you will get other health benefits too such as losing weight and feeling more energetic. One is responsible for what she/he consumes and by practicing what is suggested in the book, one also becomes more disciplined, not only of what she/he is taking, but also everything about his or her life in general.

    Thanks for the great review.

    1. Yes, first understanding about what diabetes is and what it can do is the beginning.

Knowing just what causes it and how you can reverse it will change your life.

Following the plant based diet plan and exercising is the basis to accomplish fighting off diabetes once and for all.

      Thank you for your comments!

  2. Great information and wonderful review on this book, I may have to add it to my collection! My husband is 46 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. So far he has been able to control it with metformin and diet, but it is a constant struggle.

    1. Thanks Melissa 🙂 I’m sorry to hear about your husband and his diagnosis. Unfortunately it’s becoming all too common on this day and age.
Controlling it with medication and diet is what most of us have to do. My goal is to use natural ways to lower blood sugar and reverse diabetes which is the purpose of Dr. Fuhrman’s book.
      Thank you for your comments!
      Cheers!

  3. Very interesting, detailed, and thorough review on a book that teaches you how to naturally lower your blood sugar with a plant based diet. Being able to cut down on your medication is very important. Having two parents that are diabetic and myself being pre-diabetic, I personally know how important that is.

    1. Hey Radha! Yes it’s extremely important to cut down and eliminate medication at some point.

Natural ways are always the better way to go. A plant based diet which is what Dr. Fuhrman is suggesting is much easier to adapt than living with diabetes your whole life.

Learn what you can early on and it will make life a lot easier. Thanks Dr. Fuhrman for a wonderful book and thank you Rahda for your comments!

  4. I have been riding that “pre-diabetic” line for years…. it seems like I get too close!
I’ve been looking for a book like this. I’m always trying to find the best and most natural ways to change my life, I had to take that metformin for a year and it was HORRIBLE. The side effects were so intense!
You put one of the “cons” as information overload, which for me, is actually a pro! I love to study and research so a book with too much information gives me a change to organize the information!
I’ve been slowly changing my eating habits to accommodate my blood pressure, it’s really helped, I’m finally on the high end of normal. Awesome insight!

    1. Well if you’re pre-diabetic then there’s no better time than now to do something about it and Dr. Fuhrman’s book can do just that.

Medications only mask the problem and that’s why this eating plan along with exercise can change our lives.

Sometimes people consider information overload to be a negative thing unless you go slow and take it one step at a time.

Changing your eating habits to follow this plan may not be the easiest thing to do but it’s better than living with diabetes.

      Thank you for your comments!

  5. You have done a great job by summarizing the whole content this piece. Prevention is indeed better than cure. I like going by the vegetables. It makes me really full and feels within me that I’m healthy.
This will be a great book for diabetic people to grab, although I have gotten an extract from the few you have shared.
Does the book make any prediction as to how long it will take for a diabetic person to experience any change or signs of change if one decides to go by the plan? Or you can also share your experience with me.

    1. Hey DerrAd,

Thank you. Yes prevention is easier and better than trying to cure. Vegetables are about the best foods you can eat.

Dr. Furhman’s  book is excellent and he’s got it perfectly right!

There’s no way to make a prediction for any one individual as to how long it takes because everyone is different.

My experiences are that it’s a total lifestyle change and that after months of following his plan, I feel and look like a new person. It works!

Is it easy? Not really but nothing ever worth it is easy. But the end result so that I don’t have diabetes and taking medications is what I’m aiming for.

      Thank you for your comments!

  6. hi Rob,

I truly like your site. You have so much valuable and empowering content to educate and inform. I read your About me, and it was great to hear about some of your life attitude as well as how you came to look into a natural way to address your diabetes and wanting to share that. For me, it really helped foster trust and inspiration that I could address it naturally too and you would be worth paying attention to.

I read your review of Joel Fuhrman’s book. I thought you spoke honestly about your own experience adjusting to the diet and other things the book recommends. Looking at the comments, it looks like you are promoting the info in a sincere way and i am sure you are touching a lot of people. And this is important, I totally feel you are hitting a wonderful nerve with a compassionate and inviting heartfelt resource here in your website.

    1. Hi Sheldon 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind words. I always let my readers know that my goal is to help them with diabetes and lowering blood sugar the natural ways.

When I first saw Dr. Fuhrman’s book I was totally impressed and just had to get it and take action. There’s no better feeling than to losing weight, lowering your blood sugars, and eventually getting off diabetes medications.

The goal of course is to be healthy. The End of Diabetes is the beginning as long as you take action which I did. It does take time but anything worth while does take time.

I can’t say enough about his book. While it may not be for everyone, it sure is for me and the majority of folks who see what I did.

      Thanks for your input Sheldon!

      Cheers!

      ~Rob

  7. Thank you for the thorough review on The end of diabetes plan by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. After reading your detailed review, it does seem to me as a valuable investment not only when fighting diabetes but also in general for one’s health. I prefer information backed up by the science as it is more likely to work so I will give this book a try. And I will share with my aunt who has been suffering from diabetes for thirty years already.

    1. Hi Arta ,

I wrote this review because I totally believe in Dr. Furhman’s program The End of Diabetes forever. It’s a total lifestyle change and a much healthier life without diabetes.

You can’t put a price on a life without diabetes but it’s well worth the cost. It’s a small price to pay for the end of your diabetes.

I hope you and your aunt find the success that I did.

      Good luck Arta 🙂

      ~Rob

  8. I absolutely adore Dr. Joel Fuhrman and think his advice is SPOT ON. I think it’s funny that reviewers complain about how this book is about learning how to become a vegan. Dr. Fuhrman allows for some animal products, if you so choose.

The fact is, plants are healing foods. And if you want to prevent or reverse diabetes, then you have to eat a high-nutrient diet. There are so many plant foods that you could never run out of ideas of how to prepare them. It just takes a little practice.

I agree with your recommendation and I would absolutely read or listen to anything by Dr. Fuhrman.

    1. I totally agree with you Christina. Not everyone is going to like or agree with Dr. Fuhrman but that’s their choice. I’ve watched him of TV with the End of Diabetes and it all makes complete sense.
Plants truly are the healing foods and that’s why I dedicate my website to treating diabetes an blood sugars the natural way.
There isn’t more of a natural way than Dr. Fuhrman’s End of Diabetes.
Thank you for your comments Christina!

  9. Thanks for sharing this great review. I also believe in following a proper diet to control diabetes.

This book has all the information about diabetes and plant based diet, it’s really worth buying a book. Some of my relatives have diabetes. I would like to recommend them this book.

    1. Hi Apoorva, The best thing we can do to control diabetes is to follow a healthy diet and The End of Diabetes provides all the answers to ending diabetes once and for all.
I know so many people who have diabetes and I am always passing this on to them. It’s the way to change your life for good.
Thank you for your comments 🙂 Rob

  10. Thank you so much for this information. Many of the people in my family are diabetic and I’ve recently been trying to change my lifestyle in order to keep myself from following them. This post is a great help!

    1. Hi Khiori! It’s rough struggling with diabetes and trying many diets to try and lower the blood sugars. This is finally the answer to ending diabetes. I just love this book because Dr. Joel Fuhrman has everything you need to end diabetes. Thank you for your thoughts!
      ~Rob

  11. My husband has hypertension and needs to low his blood pressure. This plan may apply to him as well as he needs to lower his blood sugar causing bad cholesterol. Very informative review and a must try if you want to change to healthy living.

    1. Hey Jam 🙂 Having high blood pressure is not good along with high blood sugar. Diabetes does a number on everything in our bodies. Dr. Fuhrman has come up with the plan to end diabetes. This is what we need to do with diabetes, end it! Thanks for sharing!
      ~Rob

    1. Hi Lance, Everyday I come across more and more people who either have diabetes or know someone who does.
My job is to spread the word about how to address it and in this case with The End of Diabetes by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I think your aunt would be very interested in ending her diabetes and Dr. Fuhrman’s “The End of Diabetes” can do just that!
      Thanks for your comments!
      ~Rob

  12. I’m glad I’ve read this article and I greatly agree with Dr. Fuhrman, to eradicate diabetes. A friend of mine did change his diet and exercised daily to fight diabetes. Even though the doctors were telling him that once you have then it is yours for life, he didn’t agree with them. I don’t agree as well. After following his routine to fight back diabetes, his life and body got better. He’s a living proof of Dr. Fuhrman’s words.

I’m starting to get fat while facing the computer every day and for lack of exercise. This article reminded me to do what I had done before to maintain a healthy body.

I don’t have diabetes yet but prevention is better than cure.

Thanks for writing this review of Dr. Fuhrman’s book. I’m thinking of buying a copy for a friend who disagreed with my belief about diabetes.

    1. Hi Eli, Dr. Fuhrman knows his stuff. That’s for sure. You can eradicate diabetes by changing what you eat and by exercising. It’s all about what you eat that can put you in the position of getting type 2 diabetes and no exercise is not good either.
You don’t want diabetes, but when you get to a certain point you have to fight back. It’s time to fight thanks to The End of Diabetes! This book is a life changer for sure. Thank you for your insight! 🙂
      ~Rob

  13. I love that you show proof! Thank you, my mom could really use this. She is pre-diabetic and I want her to reverse everything before it happens. Good price for a book that helps so much.

    Best,
    Patrick

    1. Hi Patrick 🙂 This book can really help your mom for sure! It’s good that she doesn’t have diabetes but preventing it is easier than reversing it. Dr. Fuhrman is an expert and has hit the nail on the head with his book. I hope your mom gets the book. Please forward this to others who want to end their diabetes. Thank you for sharing 🙂
      ~Rob

  14. Hello Rob,
My grandparents have low blood sugar and rely heavily on medication. I’m glad I found your article because I always believe in nature over man-made meds.

I will definitely take a look at this again when I get home from vacation.

    Cheers,
    Eric

    1. Hello Eric! Low blood sugar can be extremely dangerous. It’s difficult to be on so many medications. The natural ways are always the better ways to address things, not medications. There is so much information in Dr. Fuhrman’s book that folks can benefit from. I still watch his videos as well. He has the answers to diabetes. I recommend this book! Thanks for commenting, Eric! 🙂
      ~Rob

  15. While I applaud people putting out diet books that promote fresh foods, unprocessed meats and quality fats, I am so so tired of the push towards veganism, so thank you for adding that comment into your review.

That said, I know that most diets in the same vein, such as paleo and clean keto have many of the same benefits. After a few days of eating this way, you will not have to worry about snacking as the nutrient dense foods fill you up nicely.

    Great post!

    1. Hi Irma 🙂 I agree that there are so many diets out there and you get to the point where you don’t know which ones work and which ones don’t. How long will you stay on them and can you stay on them permanently?
When you have type 2 diabetes, you just want to get it under control and try and reverse it. But The End of Diabetes will do just that. Get rid of your diabetes and go into remission. This is the right way to eat to be healthy and avoid diabetes. Thank you for sharing your views!
      ~Rob

  16. Would this be beneficial for someone that is “pre-diabetic” to read and follow? I am thinking about getting this book to read. Then I can possibly help my son make some life changes so that he does not get diabetes. I imagine that we could be proactive?

    1. Hi Matts Mom 🙂 Yes, absolutely this will help. The best thing to do is to prevent type 2 diabetes in the first place.
Dr. Fuhrman has all the right answers to ending type 2 diabetes and preventing it. It’s a totally different way of life when it comes to how you treat your body and your health. Being proactive is an excellent way to go! Thank you for insight! 🙂

  17. My mum has diabetes and is always wanting to eat the things she shouldn’t. I always tell her, giving your body the correct fuel it needs to be able to work at its best can only be a good thing. The changes that you make to your diet to become more healthy is one of the best things you can do to keep your body working at its best. This book is going to be a surprise present for her. Many thanks for sharing.

    1. Yes, that’s what it takes to turn things around when you have type 2 diabetes. It’s all about eating the right foods but this book of Dr. Fuhrman’s is a lot more than that.
He goes into great detail and how this change will be a permanent part of your life. Once you begin you will experience how much better you feel and how your diabetes will begin to fade away. Good luck to your mum on her surprise present! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  18. I’ve read a lot on plant based diets and all their health benefits. I think the key here is that sugar in and of itself isn’t bad. The body processes it and moves right along. But when arterial walls have a build up caused by our diet, then these sugars can’t pass through and process like normal. For this reason a plant based diet keeps our body working the way it should, allowing sugar to pass and process. Great post and a very interesting subject for sure.

    1. Hi Eric, yes plant based diets are about the healthiest and best ways to go. And it goes a long way in the fight against type 2 diabetes. Sugar is the enemy and toxic to our bodies. Dr. Joel Fuhrman put it all together in The End of Diabetes. There’s a way to beat type 2 diabetes and Dr. Fuhrman has the answers! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  19. This is a nice review of the End of Diabetes. All the information here is great. I think that it is important to always know your level of glucose because I have seen people who when diagnosed with diabetes, there are a bad level such as diabetes 2. Do you think think this would be beneficial suffering from diabetes 2?

    1. Thanks Sonia 🙂 The information in The End of Diabetes will help you in the fight against diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is serious as is type 1. It’s extremely important to monitor your sugar levels with any type of diabetes. The bottom line is that The End of Diabetes can turn your life around. Thank you for your thoughts 🙂

  20. This is such a comprehensive review brother and it’s good to see your kicking your type 2 diabetes in the butt! I know it isn’t easy but the good thing is that there IS a cure and there’s one you are recommending and if people are serious about making a change I know they’ll make the right decision. Good going buddy!

    1. Hey Brandon 🙂 The reason I went into such detail about Dr. Fuhrman’s The End of Diabetes is because it packs such powerful information and for those of us with diabetes, you just want to find an end to it once and for all. I watched him on TV as well and it was very enlightening! I just want others to know that there are options to ending diabetes. This is one! Thanks for your comments!

  21. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that the end of diabetes is directly tied to how we eat. More and more research talks about this.
“The End of Diabetes book” sounds like it hits this right on the head. I like books that help prevent a problem altogether. This review was very in-depth and helpful, thanks!

    1. Hey Jacob, Type 2 diabetes is absolutely tied to what we eat. I don’t think most of us think about blood sugars when we eat. But then the doctors prescribe medications that only mask the problem. Dr. Fuhrman has the answers to ending diabetes. His book can make a difference in your life by ending diabetes. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  22. Rob, I agree with Dr Fuhrman. In the past it has been recommended for diabetics to eat low carb high protein. But the low carb was at least 60 carbs a meal. Then the fat in protein would yo yo the blood sugar. I will share this with my husband. He is a diabetic and works hard to take care of himself. Thank you for introducing us to this book.

    1. Hi Laura, I’ve watched Dr. Fuhrman talk about his book on TV. As far as I’m concerned, he knows what he’s talking about. The knowledge he provides in this book is priceless! I think your husband will benefit from not only Dr. Furhman’s book, but my whole website as well. Good luck and thanks for sharing 🙂

  23. My uncle has diabetes. Even though he’s trying not to show it, we all know he is going through quite a struggle.
I found this book just in time. I believe it will be a great help for the whole family.
Thank you so much for sharing your article.
Helping so many people with such a detailed information is really inspiring.
You should be proud of the work you are doing!

    1. Hi Boryana 🙂 Sorry to hear about your uncle, but this isn’t a death sentence. As long as you learn how to make lifestyle changes as Dr. Furhman points out in his book, you can lead a normal life.
This book is packed with so much positive information on how you can reverse your type 2 diabetes and anyone should seriously look into it ASAP! Thank you for your concerns 🙂
