  1. I did not know that Diabetes can cause back pain.  My wife has type two diabetes and has a lot of leg and foot pain

She lost over one hundred pounds when she found out she had diabetes, and she changed her diet as well.

How much exercise should a diabetic do, can you overdo it ?

Yes, getting a good pair of soft, supporting shoes is so important to minimize foot pain.

    • Hey Phil 🙂

Diabetes can cause pain among many other things. But pain is the one thing you do not want to suffer through.

Sorry to hear that your wife has diabetes and that she’s suffering.

But it’s awesome that she lost so much weight and is hopefully on her way to better health.

As far as exercise goes, I feel that you can overdo it. But following 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week wouldn’t be too much.

Diabetic shoes are a good investment when you have foot pain too.

I appreciate your feedback. Thank you 🙂

  2. Hello Rob!

Diabetes is such a serious disease that it has some disturbing, well-known side effects like wounds that do not heal in time (even for years if not treated properly), maybe also back pain (which is not clearly demonstrated), and of course other problems.

As for the back pain, physical exercise, a good sleep and a fine nutrition are among the good weapons for preventing it! Improving our daily posture is another “hard mission”, it takes some time, effort, and will to cultivate a good habit in this direction. Many of us have vicious postures!

    • Hey Peter!

Diabetes is such a big topic these days that whatever can be done to avoid things like back pain should be addressed.

Back pain can come from diabetes along with a host of so many other things.

I agree that diet and exercise play a huge role in the fight against back pain and diabetes as well.

And to get your back into a position where you no longer have pain can take some effort and time.

      Thank you for your feedback!

  3. Hi Rob

I also think that there is no direct relation between back and neck pain with diabetes, especially type 2, as often older people get the disease. The result being that the natural wear and tear that occurs, especially the thinning of discs. The biggest problem is that in medicine it is possible to have many conditions and not  have them related. It is just  that it happens. The other consideration is that a lot of people suffer from backache and just by chance some people will suffer from diabetes.

It will be interesting to see how many people have back problems and develop diabetes because of the weight put on because the person cannot exercise. People with backache are also less likely to exercise, so are likely to suffer more health problems

    Thanks

    • Hey Antonio,

There may be no direct connection between diabetes and back pain. But diabetes has its own way of affecting so many different issues.

And blood sugars that are out of control can sometimes be the underlying cause of issues with our backs.

Back pain comes from so many sources and we are well aware of that. It is interesting to note as you did that people with back pain develop diabetes because of a weight problem.

This in turn is directly related to back pain. I would say the bottom line is to eat healthy and exercise and avoid as many health issues as possible such as back pain and diabetes.

Thank you for your comments 🙂

  4. I never suspect back pain is related to diabetic issues. I have back pain and unfortunately a sign of near diabetic occurs in my last lab test. Having read this article, I think I need to do all the recommendations. Go back to routine exercises may be the easiest path. But I think I will start with swimming and yoga. Things I had been doing in the past.

Thank you for such an article. It really helps.

    • Hey Indra 🙂

Back pain is usually from other complications and not necessarily diabetes but it can be in some cases.

I have found that certain exercises are the answer for relieving back pain. Everyone is different.

But you picked two of the best exercises for back pain; yoga and swimming.

I happen to do both and love the exercises. Back pain becomes less!

You’re welcome for the article and thank you for your comments!
