  1. Holiday eating with diabetes cannot be easy balanced because, during this period you want to have a time of your life with foods and drinks.
Its only during this period you have time for partying and stuffs, where you consume anything consumable so to speak.
One is not able to control oneself until you are filled to the brim.

    • Hi! 🙂 It’s important around the holidays to try and resist the foods that are bad for you as a diabetic.

We all need help when it comes to the temptations of desserts and other foods with sugar especially that can spike our blood sugars.

And you’re correct. With proper planning we can overcome the odds that the bad boy foods will get to us! 🙂

I’m not saying that it’s easy but with diabetes, we have to try hard and do the best that we can.

I appreciate your feedback. Thank you 🙂

  3. Hi Rob, thank you for all those reminders. When these holidays arrive, I have 2 weeks away from my exercise program. I have 4 family gatherings coming up and 2 parties with friends. I know how those are, loaded with food I haven’t had in a while because I have been carefully choosing my meals. I like the idea of planning ahead. I can still enjoy the events with these tips in mind.

  4. Excellent article, Rob! I feel there is a lot of really good information here for someone that’s either dealing with Diabetes personally, or knows someone who is.

Though I’ve never had to battle Diabetes myself, I have friends and family that do. There’s a lot of restrictions in the diet, and they’re always keeping food with them on the go to help balance out their blood-sugar levels.

For someone like myself who doesn’t have Diabetes, but wants to keep it that way, what might you suggest?

  5. Hello Rob, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. My dad has diabetes and now is the time when we need to take things carefully because he is a person who likes to eat, especially for holidays. I am glad you give some very useful tips on how to stay healthy during the holidays when we are overcrowded with food.

    • Hey Danijel,

Thank you so much! I wanted to address the holiday eating situation. We all know what happens around the holidays.

And as diabetics it makes it all the more difficult to eat right and resist the temptation of the unhealthy foods.

But I think we can make it easier by just following the tips I mentioned here.

Maybe we can’t do all 16 of them but at least some will help.

Food is always calling your name especially during the holidays, right?

Thank you for your comments 🙂

  7. My friend has diabetes. He has been careless about this over the last years, with consequences .. He is taking much better care of himself now and I’m sure that he will appreciate your article. I will share it with him. There are some great tips here. Skipping meals is definitely not a good idea, I don’t know why people do that. Although it is a time of cheer it’s also a time where people get depressed. Staying positive is very very important during the Holidays.

  9. Thank you for your very concise take on a problematic time of the year when it comes to food! You laid it all out simply but thoroughly explored the options, even summarizing for clarity.

The only glitch I noticed was a possible duplication of your paragraph titled, “Modify Favorite Holiday Foods.”

People want a “go-to” source of information such as you have presented.  Keep it up! It will help others out there as it did me!
