The End of Diabetes
The goal behind Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book is to reverse and end diabetes by changing to and following a plant based diet. The premise behind this book is that diabetes is caused by refined sugars and grains, and having a diet consisting of animal fat (and red meat), and oils (fats).
By following a high nutrient density plant-based diet which provides the perfect nutrients that your body requires and needs, it can change your body and health by cutting your medications in half after the first week. I found that the personal histories of his patients that are provided were awesome because let’s face it, this isn’t for everyone. Not everything is for everyone, is it? But I do think this is for everyone who wants to rid themselves of diabetes.
Dr. Fuhrman discusses what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. It’s about eating a lot of vegetables which shouldn’t be a shock to you. If you follow the plan, it will work. But as much information as there is in his book, it all comes down to a decision. Because once you decide to do it and take that step toward the end of the diabetes finish line, you must take A-C-T-I-O-N! That’s the cold hard truth.
I couldn’t agree more with Dr. Fuhrman’s belief to eradicate rather than medicate. Natural foods are made for the body to be healthy. Eating your meals that are packed with nutrients such as beans, green vegetables, mushrooms, berries, and seeds are what’s going to make a colossal difference in your body.
He also suggests not eating in between meals, sticking with three meals a day, and eating about the same amount of calories at each meal. There is one thing in particular that the book talks about on pages 162-167 that I want to mention. It’s exercise. He talks about exercise being more important and beneficial than taking your medication. I thought that was very insightful and great advice.

I heard so much about Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s The End of Diabetes plan and after reading reviews, I decided that it was in my best interest to find out for myself.

I found mostly positive comments, but of course there are some negative points brought up as well. One person said it wasn’t what they expected and thought it was geared toward more of having to become a vegan. Another believed that this particular diet was not applicable for their family, but would use a few things that the book did offer.
These comments didn’t sway me from buying the book because they didn’t seem to be a concern for others who stated that The End of Diabetes book was very informative and is a great book to reference and very informative. On another positive note someone who was in particular was happy had stated that the book was awesome, with tons of information that the Dr. had backed up with real science.
The Bottom Line
My conclusion in writing My End of Diabetes Book Review by Dr. Joel Fuhrman is that I got tired of being diabetic and overweight. Sometimes you just come up against something and you just have to pull out all the stops and make a decision to find a way to end the misery. At least it was for me. My blood sugar has come down and while I won’t say that it’s the easiest thing to do in following the plan, it certainly is working.
I’m glad that I made the decision to purchase this book. The majority of consumers are happy and I know that it isn’t for everybody, but it is for me which is why I recommend it to others.

This is an interesting review and I strongly believe people with diabetes should grab the book and digest the content for the benefits of their own health. Understanding the cause of the diabetes and that it has an answer to reverse is a blessing. In addition, you will get other health benefits too such as losing weight and feeling more energetic. One is responsible for what she/he consumes and by practicing what is suggested in the book, one also becomes more disciplined, not only of what she/he is taking, but also everything about his or her life in general.

Great information and wonderful review on this book, I may have to add it to my collection! My husband is 46 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. So far he has been able to control it with metformin and diet, but it is a constant struggle.

Very interesting, detailed, and thorough review on a book that teaches you how to naturally lower your blood sugar with a plant based diet. Being able to cut down on your medication is very important. Having two parents that are diabetic and myself being pre-diabetic, I personally know how important that is.

I’ve been looking for a book like this. I’m always trying to find the best and most natural ways to change my life, I had to take that metformin for a year and it was HORRIBLE. The side effects were so intense!
You put one of the “cons” as information overload, which for me, is actually a pro! I love to study and research so a book with too much information gives me a change to organize the information!

There’s no way to make a prediction for any one individual as to how long it takes because everyone is different.
My experiences are that it’s a total lifestyle change and that after months of following his plan, I feel and look like a new person. It works!
Is it easy? Not really but nothing ever worth it is easy. But the end result so that I don’t have diabetes and taking medications is what I’m aiming for.

I absolutely adore Dr. Joel Fuhrman and think his advice is SPOT ON. I think it’s funny that reviewers complain about how this book is about learning how to become a vegan. Dr. Fuhrman allows for some animal products, if you so choose.
The fact is, plants are healing foods. And if you want to prevent or reverse diabetes, then you have to eat a high-nutrient diet. There are so many plant foods that you could never run out of ideas of how to prepare them. It just takes a little practice.
I agree with your recommendation and I would absolutely read or listen to anything by Dr. Fuhrman.

My husband has hypertension and needs to low his blood pressure. This plan may apply to him as well as he needs to lower his blood sugar causing bad cholesterol. Very informative review and a must try if you want to change to healthy living.

I’m glad I’ve read this article and I greatly agree with Dr. Fuhrman, to eradicate diabetes. A friend of mine did change his diet and exercised daily to fight diabetes. Even though the doctors were telling him that once you have then it is yours for life, he didn’t agree with them. I don’t agree as well. After following his routine to fight back diabetes, his life and body got better. He’s a living proof of Dr. Fuhrman’s words.
I’m starting to get fat while facing the computer every day and for lack of exercise. This article reminded me to do what I had done before to maintain a healthy body.

Hi Eli, Dr. Fuhrman knows his stuff. That’s for sure. You can eradicate diabetes by changing what you eat and by exercising. It’s all about what you eat that can put you in the position of getting type 2 diabetes and no exercise is not good either.

While I applaud people putting out diet books that promote fresh foods, unprocessed meats and quality fats, I am so so tired of the push towards veganism, so thank you for adding that comment into your review.
That said, I know that most diets in the same vein, such as paleo and clean keto have many of the same benefits. After a few days of eating this way, you will not have to worry about snacking as the nutrient dense foods fill you up nicely.

I’ve read a lot on plant based diets and all their health benefits. I think the key here is that sugar in and of itself isn’t bad. The body processes it and moves right along. But when arterial walls have a build up caused by our diet, then these sugars can’t pass through and process like normal. For this reason a plant based diet keeps our body working the way it should, allowing sugar to pass and process. Great post and a very interesting subject for sure.

I think that it is important to always know your level of glucose because I have seen people who when diagnosed with diabetes, there are a bad level such as diabetes 2. Rob, I agree with Dr Fuhrman. In the past it has been recommended for diabetics to eat low carb high protein. But the low carb was at least 60 carbs a meal. Then the fat in protein would yo yo the blood sugar. I will share this with my husband. He is a diabetic and works hard to take care of himself. Thank you for introducing us to this book.

Hi Rob. Yes, knowledge is power. So true. The more we can understand our own bodies the better able to look after them we will be. I’m not surprised that ending diabetes is as simple as changing your diet, eating habits and general lifestyle. Exercise is important for all of us. Our bodies are such a magnificent construct, and we have been gifted with the ability to physically experience and do so much. Yet, so many people would prefer to sit around on the couch or barstool and not take advantage of this.
