Thanks a lot for such an amazing review about diabetes affect the respiratory Systems and explanation given.
I have searched many articles on this topic because my grandmother suffers from diabetes and we are very concerned about the condition of her medical care. All the articles I found on the internet in none was as much information as in it. Thanks a lot, at least now my family knows about grandma.
Thanks again and wish you all the best.
You’re welcome π It’s hard to see anyone suffer with diabetes especially the young or the elderly.
The respiratory system is important and you don’t want to compromise it.
Once you’re diagnosed with diabetes it can cause all kinds of health issues.
I can’t even imagine not being able to breathe because my respiratory system was damaged from diabetes.
I appreciate your comments. Thank you π
I found your article very useful and informative.
I have learnt a lot from your post. People suffering from diabetes are more likely to catch a cold, flu, or other communicable illness and will likely take longer to recover. This can have a significant effect on the blood sugar levels and overall diabetes management.
Thanks for sharing this great article regarding diabetes and its effect on the respiratory system
Hi S.J.
Thank you so much! I’m happy that you have learned something. That’s the purpose of writing articles for folks.
It’s serious when you have diabetes because it can affect so many different parts of your body.
The respiratory system can be serious and you want to try and avoid this. The most important thing to prevent this is to control your blood sugars and diabetes.

Hello Rob, thanks for this great article. I feel like I’m reading webMD.
I personally am a smoker. And I never thought there was a relationship between smoking and glucose levels. However, because of your writing, I now understand better.
Speaking of diabetes that causes COPD, may I say because of excessive glucose levels in the blood in the lungs area? So when there is excess insulin in the body, then the excess immune reaction causes inflammation of the lungs?
I’m very curious and want to find out Rob!
Thank you for this great and interesting article!
Hey Kylie π
You’re welcome! My goal is to help as many others as possible with regards to diabetes.
While I am not a smoker and never have been, I do know from experience of my family who all smoked that smoking affects everything in your body including diabetes.
I have yet to find any evidence for benefits of smoking. It can most certainly cause COPD and affect your respiratory system just as diabetes can too.
Excess insulin can cause your body to absorb too much glucose into your blood which can affect your lungs.

Thank you Rob for your article on how diabetes affect the respiratory system. It is very informative and acts like an eye opener. I have some friends fighting the disease, I will share it with them. I also discovered Sunergetic , the blood sugar supplement. I will recommend it as well to them to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Eva π
You’re welcome! Unfortunately diabetes can affect everything and the respiratory system is one of them.
You don’t want diabetes affecting any of your body organs especially your respiratory system that helps you with breathing.
We must control our diabetes by keeping blood sugars in the normal range.
Sunergetic is a great supplement in helping to keep blood sugars down.
Thank you for your thoughts and for trying Sunergetic π
Very informative article. Provides a good overview of the impact diabetes can have on lung function. As a few studies were mentioned in the article it would have been nice to have the links to these (if online) so that I could read further into these studies. I appreciated that you kept the information on the various points concise, I can imagine with the wealth of data out there it would be easy to lose focus and lay down long pieces of text. As is, the information here is relevant, informative and presented in a way that makes for easy reading. Personally, we have a history of diabetes in our family and although I don’t have it, I found the article helpful to understand those that do that are close to me. Thank you!
Hi Rudi,
You are very welcome! It’s very hard to survive when your respiratory system is compromised. This can occur from different causes including diabetes.
The point of my article is to provide basic information about how diabetes affects your respiratory system. We know it does because there is proof out there that exists and backs this up.
I try to keep my articles concise and to the point and diabetes affecting the respiratory is no laughing matter. But I do have links to back it up for you. Check them out:

Hello, thank you for this informative post. The time is amazing. I discover more and more people with diabetes. Some of my friends too. It makes me more concern about my health. I know if I have diabetes, it will be very troublesome. The cost of the medicine will make my life even worse so I’m looking for more information about that. I hope I can avoid that.
Luckily I landed on your site. Before I didn’t know diabetes will affect the respiratory system. I only know I can’t eat sweet food and need to control the diet. Honestly, it scares me. Hello Rob, Thank you for writing on How does Diabetes Affect the Respiratory System? | Discover Exactly What Diabetes Does. I learn lots of things while reading your article. It is very helpful for me to know that diabetes affect the respiratory system.

Hey Parveen π
I enjoyed writing this article because your respiratory system is vital for your health. It’s scary when you can’t breathe and we must control our diabetes.
Smoking is one of the big no nos. Thankfully I have never smoked. But diabetes can really affect the respiratory system.
The more we learn about what diabetes does, the better we can address and hopefully prevent it.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather too.
Thank you for sharing π
Everything you said makes perfect sense to me. I’m surrounded by a lot of friends and family members (Aunts and my own Father) with diabetes type 2. Among them, unfortunately, my father does smoke a lot!
The decrease of natural lung function in type 2 diabetes patients it’s alarming. Whenever anyone urges him to leave the cigar-smoking habits he replays saying that smoke never gets to his lungs (as he no longer smokes cigarettes but actual pure cigars).
Cigar smoking is not intended to be considered a healthier option to cigarettes smoking but in his mind it actually is. Pollution presence in our country is very Low (we leave in the Dominican Republic) and Deep breathing is the closest thing to work out my family could stand xD.
Thanks a lot for your post. I make sure to share it as a new call to their consciousness.
Hey Juan,
Most of us know either family or friends who are diabetic. Type 2 diabetes is growing by leaps and bounds.
Sorry to hear that your father smokes. My whole family smoked and I was the only one who didn’t smoke.
Unfortunately smoking does indeed affect your respiratory system as does diabetes.
In order to stay healthy smoking and diabetes need to be avoided.
