The goal behind Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book is to reverse and end diabetes by changing to and following a plant based diet. The premise behind this book is that diabetes is caused by refined sugars and grains, and having a diet consisting of animal fat (and red meat), and oils (fats).
By following a high nutrient density plant-based diet which provides the perfect nutrients that your body requires and needs, it can change your body and health by cutting your medications in half after the first week. It can additionally reduce more medications in the first thirty days and most people might typically be off all their medications within six months.
Additional claims are that blood sugars are steady, with no lows or highs and the need for insulin would be no longer within seven days. And to continue following Dr. Fuhrman’s diet, you would live a normal life again without any complications.

Diabetes doesn’t have to cut your life short if you don’t let it. And that’s the motive behind The Eat to Live Plan. Dr. Fuhrman shows you how to get off your medications and help to avoid ailments such as blindness, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney failure, liver problems, and other issues and diseases that could be life threatening at some point.
His plan is not only just about getting your general health in order, it’s about monitoring your blood sugar levels, limiting your carb intake, and not only taking control of your diabetes but your life as well. He talks about how eating affects your body and your life. It basically comes down to consuming foods with a high nutrient density. This turns your body into a powerhouse healing system that results in significant health improvement, weight loss, and to the final goal of ending diabetes and other diseases as well.
We all know that we are what we eat, right? By following the end of diabetes plan you will lose weight and start to feel better and start to stop your medications. (All with your doctor’s approval of course) This may or may not be a shock to your body, depending on how you’re currently eating. For the most part it will be a big change in your eating lifestyle. It was for me.
This isn’t just about following the plan and eating the foods on this plant based diet. I learned so much in reading this book. Knowledge is power and the more you know about your body and diabetes and how it works for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the better off you will be. I found that the personal histories of his patients that are provided were awesome because let’s face it, this isn’t for everyone. Not everything is for everyone, is it?
Dr. Fuhrman discusses what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. It’s about eating a lot of vegetables which shouldn’t be a shock to you. If you follow the plan, it will work. But as much information as there is in his book, it all comes down to a decision. Because once you decide to do it and take that step toward the end of the diabetes finish line, you must take A-C-T-I-O-N! That’s the cold hard truth.
I couldn’t agree more with Dr. Fuhrman’s belief to eradicate rather than medicate. Natural foods are made for the body to be healthy. Eating your meals that are packed with nutrients such as beans, green vegetables, mushrooms, berries, and seeds are what’s going to make a colossal difference in your body.
He also suggests not eating in between meals, sticking with three meals a day, and eating about the same amount of calories at each meal. There is one thing in particular that the book talks about on pages 162-167 that I want to mention. It’s exercise. He talks about exercise being more important and beneficial than taking your medication. I thought that was very insightful and great advice.

I heard so much about Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s The End of Diabetes plan and after reading reviews, I decided that it was in my best interest to find out for myself.
There were 1,513 reviews at the time of my review and the average rating was 4.4 starts out of 5.
I found mostly positive reviews, but of course there are some negative points brought up. In one example a customer stated, ” It is not what I expected. I feel that maybe it should be called the Guideline to how to become Vegan.” A second customer said, ” I didn’t find this diet suitable for my family. I did learn a few things from the book that I will use.”
These reviews didn’t sway me from buying the book because they didn’t seem to be a concern for others who stated, ” This is an informative book. It is worth reading and makes a great reference. It contains tons of information.” On another positive note this particular customer said, ” Excellent! It has great information and is backed by REAL SCIENCE!”
The bottom line
My conclusion in picking up The End of Diabetes by Dr. Joel Fuhrman is that I got tired of being diabetic and overweight. Sometimes you just come up against something and you just have to pull out all the stops and make a decision to find a way to end the misery. At least it was for me. My blood sugar has come down and while I won’t say that it’s the easiest thing to do in following the plan, it certainly is working.
I’m glad that I made the decision to purchase this book. The majority of consumers are happy and I know that it isn’t for everybody, but it is for me which is why I recommend it to others!
