Turmeric and Diabetes-Lower Your Blood Sugar With Turmeric

Turmeric and Diabetes-Lower Your Blood Sugar With Turmeric

What is turmeric and curcumin and how are they important?

Turmeric is found in the spice curry and while it’s known for its taste, it just has the most unbelievable health benefits. Turmeric and diabetes go hand in hand. Since turmeric has active compounds that have very powerful medicinal properties, one of them being curcumin, which is the most important one, it’s beneficial because it is an extremely strong antioxidant and because of its anti-inflammatory effects and lowers your blood sugar.

Curcumin is not absorbed into the bloodstream very well so you must turn to supplements that contain a natural substance (known as Biopiperine) that will enhance the absorption of curcumin by two thousand percent more. Curcumin repairs damage and is a big time fighter in helping the body against foreign invaders.

Bacteria

Why is inflammation so important? Because bacteria and every other harmful “enemy” could take over our bodies and could end all for us. So a short term inflammation is beneficial but when it becomes long term and chronic, it then turns our bodies against our own tissues. This is as technical as I can out and would like to.

In order to protect and prevent anything such as what I call the “enemies” taking over, I turn to turmeric which has the curcumin contained inside it. There is a huge list of health benefits that result from turmeric/curcumin.

  1. I knew turmeric was good for you, but I never knew there were that many benefits! I used to use turmeric for stir fries and curry but had completely forgot about it for a while so this post really reminded me to add it back in. I will definitely use it more now since the list of benefits is so long!

    1. I don’t think that most folks would even know about turmeric unless they read it somewhere like here. I wanted to list as many benefits as possible because it’s a superfood! And there is more than one benefit that each and every person could be helped with. Everyone should look into turmeric and see what it can do for them. Thank you for your comments!

  2. I am aware that turmeric is very good for pain and inflammation, but I must say you presented many more benefits which is great to know. I have used it in soups, and even sliced it up raw and added to my water bottle. I find that it stains everything yellow including my teeth. Do you have or know of any special recipes so I can incorporate turmeric into my foods or liquids?

    1. It’s good to know that you are aware of least some benefits of turmeric. You can add it to most anything. I tried to be extremely thorough in listing as many benefits as I could for turmeric and curcumin. For staining, you may want to try this: Brush your teeth as you would normally, but instead of rinsing when you’re done, allow the turmeric to sit on your teeth for 3-5 minutes so it can work. 2. Spit and rinse thoroughly, then follow with a second brushing using your regular toothpaste. You can find some recipes to incorporate turmeric by clicking here. Thank you for your comments!

  3. Thank you for sharing such a great article on the Tumeric benefits. Boy, there are quite few benefits.

I was going to write an article on Tumeric as natural skincare.

I understand your article is about benefits, but would be great if you can include two things:
    1. the “dosage and/or amount”
    2. Tumeric must work with a small pinch of pepper to be effective.

    1. Hi Pamela and thank you for commenting. I tried to include as much information as possible about the benefits of turmeric. It’s just very healthy for you. I thought I did mention about the amount to take but if you missed it, I take 500 mg once a day. And yes you are correct. I did fail to mention that pepper makes turmeric more effective because it aids in the absorption of turmeric. Thank you for your comments!

  4. Great article, Rob.

I had heard that turmeric was good for you, but I had no idea how many ailments can possibly be helped with it. That’s a rather impressive list!

Is it possible to get enough tumeric / curcumin in your diet without supplements, or do you think everyone could benefit from taking supplements?

    Thanks for the info!

    1. Thanks for commenting Andy. Yes there are many ailments that turmeric can help. Like anything else, everything should be run by your doctor, but I don’t believe I get enough turmeric in the foods I eat so I take 500 mg a day of turmeric. As healthy as turmeric is for you, too much of anything is not a good thing. Knowing what the proper amount to take is key here.

  5. Thank you for a well written article. The benefits of Turmeric and curcumin look very promising for many common and not so common ailments. I wasn’t aware of these spices/herbs and I will further investigate. I really liked the Diabetes health advice since that disease is a true epidemic in our country. Thanks for your work.. Have a Great Day.
