  1. I didn’t know that pumpernickel bread helps to lower the risk of diabetes. Always learn something new. My dad died of diabetes-related problems. My mom now has diabetes, as well as my sister. We use cinnamon to help deal with diabetes. It works to a certain degree, but pumpernickel bread, especially with the fibers included, seems to sound like a better option for us.

    I love french toast, if I can turn pumpernickel bread into french toast, I would probably eat it every day.

      Most diabetics assume that all bread is off limits. Well that’s not the case with pumpernickel bread.

      I’m sorry that you lost your dad from this horrible disease. I do hope that you refer your mom and your sister to my website because along with pumpernickel bread, I have a lot of material they could benefit from.

      Cinnamon is also great for lowering blood sugars.

      French toast tastes great but white bread is the enemy here.

  2. I always liked pumpernickel bread. Or pumpernickel swirled with rye. I have been eating low glycemic for a while and I like it. I actually don’t eat foods with gluten but I eat rice. I also have to watch my oxalates because I get kidney stones easily. But I think its good for people who are OK eating gluten to be able to eat this. 

    I really like the Diabetes Lie book. I think it is so true because changing the diet is the best way to help lower blood sugar.

      I’m a fan of pumpernickel bread too. I love all kinds of bread but can’t eat them anymore because of the diabetes.

      Low glycemic is the best way to go and I try to follow it as well. It’s a great idea to eat foods that don’t contain gluten either.

      I feel for you because I know kidney stones can be so painful.

      The Diabetes Lie does talk about changing your diet but either way pumpernickel bread is a thumbs up!

  3. Wonderful post! Although I love pumpernickel bread, I had no idea how many health benefits were present.  

    I have been on a no-carb, high-fat diet lately but I was planning to slowly add in a bit of carbs soon.  After reading your post, pumpernickel bread is going to be the first addition.  

    Knowing this, I cant feel less guilty when I order a bagel if I get the pumpernickel ones. Yum!!

      Thank you so much! I love pumpernickel bread too! I love all breads but with diabetes good breads are hard to find which is why pumpernickel is awesome!

      Carbs are dangerous when you have diabetes, but as long as you manage what you eat, you’re good to go!

  4. Never really know that pumpernickel bread had so many great benefits to our health. I had a small problems with high blood sugar, when I was a kid, but that resolved through increased physical activity and well designed diet.

    However, I am quite impressed with all the great benefits of pumpernickel bread you listed here.
    What I like the most is the fact that it helps with weight loss and it is good for bowels.

    • I love pumpernickel bread and I’m glad it’s a bread that is okay for diabetics to have.
      Exercise is so important when it comes to diabetes and the more we move the better our blood sugars will be.
      But the foods we eat dictate everything and as I said although bread is generally off limits to diabetics, pumpernickel is not one of them so you’re good to go!
