  1. Hi, Rob,

I knew that some oils can be used to treat headaches and other body aches, but I’d never heard about their properties regarding glucose control.

My mother was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Which oil do you recommend? Are they all pretty much the same or are they different? Are there any side effects? I don’t want my mother to take meds for the rest of her life, but you know how doctors react against alternative medicine or forms of treatment.

I hope to hear from you. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hey Enrique,

Essential oils are used for so many different things today.

Yes these 7 oils can help with your diabetes. They all offer different benefits.

One thing they all have in common is to calm you and reduce stress and let me tell you that stress places a very big role in your high blood sugars.

Any one of the olis are an excellent choice. You can’t ingest them. You have to dilute them with a carrier oil such as coconut oil. The mixture amount is: (according to healthline.com)

When diluting essential oils with a carrier oil, it’s important to follow these dilution guidelines. For adults: 2.5 percent dilution: 15 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil. 3 percent dilution: 20 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil.

And there are generally no side effects, but have her check with her doctor anyway to be safe.

      Thank you for sharing 🙂

  2. I heard from a relative that Plant Therapy makes real good quality products. I order some and Amazon does a really good job of making sure that the product arrives in good condition. I put the oil in my warmer and it makes a great and pleasant scent. Coriander seed works great with other essential oils as well. It is a great product.

    • Hey Lee 🙂

Yes Plant Therapy makes excellent products. Almost all of my essential oils are Plant Therapy products.

These 7 are the best for helping with blood sugars.

One of the main reasons is that they help to control stress which is a big factor in raising your blood sugars.

I like all 7 of the oils but especially the coriander and black pepper because they provide the best benefits.

Thank you for sharing your views 🙂

  3. I had heard about this, that essential oils could lower blood sugar but I didn’t believe it. Recently, I have been hearing this again and I decided to research about it. I’m glad I found your post. Among the options listed in this post, I really liked Organic Lavender Essential Oil. I’ve been reading about oxidative stress which affects diabetics, and knowing that this essential oil protects against it has made me make up my mind.

    • Hey Abel,

Essential oils are very beneficial for many things including lowering blood sugars.

They can be very soothing and help you to relax and one thing that these 7 essential oils have is that they can calm you and help reduce stress.

Stress is a killer and can certainly raise your blood sugar levels.

I happen to like all of these oils but I am partial to the lavender as well.

Use these in a diffuser and never take them internally!

      Thank you for sharing 🙂

  4. Hello,

Thanks for posting this. I’m glad I came upon your site!

It’s because I think I’m beginning to develop diabetes although last bloodwork showed my blood sugar levels around borderline and kinda creeping into diabetes territory. I had bloodwork done again yesterday and I won’t be surprised if my blood sugar is a lot higher because I seem to be developing symptoms like constant thirst and constant fatigue.

How do essential oils lower blood sugar? It is ingested?

Thanks for this post. I will tell my diabetic friend about it.

    • Hi Sonny,

You’re welcome and I’m glad you arrived here too! There’s a wealth of information here to help you with diabetes and blood sugars.

You’re smart with having your bloodwork done regularly. You always want to know your numbers.

It’s best to keep a watch out for pre-diabetes symptoms. The more knowledge you have the better you can handle this if it becomes diabetes.

You use the oils through a diffuser. One thing that most, if not all of the oils have in common is that they help calm you down from stress because stress plays a huge role in raising your blood sugar levels.

Thank you for your comments and for sharing this. I appreciate it 🙂

  5. Thank a lot Rob for putting this list together. I’ve become your personal ambassador to the members of my family not knowing how to speak English and suffering Diabetes type II.

My aunt hasn’t gotten any experience using essential oils to control her blood sugar. But, as always, I’ll be extending your recommendation.

What would be considered a good carrier oil?

    Reply
    • Hey Juan,

You’re welcome! I’m glad I have communication with your family through you because type 2 diabetes is rough.

I’m sorry that your aunt hasn’t had any success. But if I may ask? How has she been using the essential oil? I would not suggest ingesting it.

Mixing the right amount in a diffuser will help to give you the best results.

As far as a carrier oil? I use and recommend coconut oil.

      Thank you for sharing 🙂

  6. Hi Rob,

Great article here. It’s crazy how many uses there are for essential oils. I never knew oils could lower blood sugar, but now I do! I also didn’t know about some of the specific oils you mentioned, such as black pepper (I can’t imagine that smelling pleasant).

I got a diffuser some months ago and have since then been hooked on essential oils. My favorites have been eucalyptus and sweet orange, but the ginger root you have listed seems like it would be pretty good. I think I might give some of these oils a try. I do have one question though: do these oils have the effects if they’re ingested or applied directly to the skin? Thanks,

    Isaac

    Reply
    • Hi Isaac 🙂

Thanks! Yes, it’s amazing how many uses there are for essential oils today. And these 7 can help with blood sugars.

Not every essential oil will smell the best and everyone has different smells and opinions about the different oils.

I actually just bought the new diffuser mentioned in the article and works great. I have other oils that I use too in addition to helping with the blood sugars.

Some oils will take the stress off and stress is huge when it comes to affecting your high blood sugars.

In answer to your question,I would NOT ingest these at all. And even when you dilute them, I don’t feel that applying to the skin will get you the same results.

Appreciate your insight. Thank you 🙂

  7. Thanks for this review, it was very interesting to me. As a soap maker, I love essential oils, they are the most natural way of scenting soaps and I know a bit about them by now. So, I really liked your review pointing out on how they can be helpful to reduce, contain, or even prevent a condition like high blood sugar, improving the lives of people suffering from diabetes.

Essential oils are plant extracts and we all know that plants do have many medicinal and therapeutical properties. So I don’t doubt that plant extracts can treat conditions. My doubt is if essential oils are the best means to do so and how should they be applied to have a good effect (and avoid undesired side effects).

And if I may be so bold as to make a suggestion to you, please, add this information to your review based on scientific evidence or your personal experience, as you seem to have tried some of them and experienced some effect. I’d love to read about this sort of information, and it will give readers much more confidence that essential oils do work when topically applied, for example.

I do recommend Plant Therapy essential oils as well 🙂 although they are very expensive to purchase from Portugal (so I use a good local supplier).

Keep up the good work with your blog.

    Cheers,

    Sofia

    • Hi Sofia 🙂

I’m happy that you enjoyed my review about essential oils! I think it’s cool that you are into soap-making.

Essential oils are extremely beneficial for many different problems. For me, anything that helps control diabetes and blood sugar is worth looking into.

The fact is that there isn’t just one “best thing” that’s going to help with diabetes or anything else for that matter.

Everything I write about is based on my experience. That’s what my entire website and articles are about, but I do appreciate the fact that you’re interested in reading about that specifically.

I really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you! 🙂

  8. Hello Rob, finding myself in a situation where I’ll need an essential oil haven’t haven’t happened to me and I feel really happy with the content of this article, which will in the long run will help us all out there. I really love the cinnamon oil because I have made use of it in the past and it is really good. I would not mind going for it again.

    • Hey Justin,

Essential oils are really booming right now. They offer so many benefits for so many different issues.

The fact that there are a huge number of different oils makes it a bit of a research to find the right oil to alleviate the right problem.

Right now I use peppermint oil and frankincense oil mixed with coconut oil as the primer to help neuropathy in my feet. Sometimes you have to mix things up and add another one or two oils into the mix. It’s all trial and error.

Cinnamon oil is awesome! Anything that has cinnamon in it is great!

I appreciate your comments. Thank you 🙂

  9. These are some very good essential oils, really. I didn’t know that they were so beneficial to the extent that I would also be able to lower my blood sugar level with them. This is good because I have an aunt who has some serious issues with her blood levels. This is increasingly going to help her too. Thanks for the review.

    • Hey Jay,

Thanks and yes I agree that these oils are awesome! It’s amazing how beneficial essential oils can be for you.

But yes, there are specific oils that can help with lowering your blood sugar.

Sorry to hear that your aunt has issues with her blood sugars. The key is to find what works to control the blood sugars and follow that.

In this case essential oils can be beneficial. Anything that helps to control your blood sugars is worth a try.

      Thanks for sharing 🙂
