  1. I’ve struggled with weight loss for a long time. I’ve tried a myriad of diets and I’m familiar with many dieting concepts, including BMI. However, with my most recent dietary plan, I found out that BMI is a very simplistic way of measuring your overall health. Muscle weighs more than fat, so BMI doesn’t accurately describe your health condition. When you lose weight and work out, you develop muscle. You can be heavy but healthy. What matters is your size like your waist size.

When I lost weight, my blood pressure and sugar levels improved. If I guided myself just by BMI, then I’d be sc***ed. But I know I’m on the right path. I’m not saying we shouldn’t pay attention to BMI, but rather that it may not be an accurate measure of our health.

Thanks for bringing this up. I look forward to reading more from you.

    • Hi Enrique 🙂

So many of us have issues with weight loss. BMI is important, but I agree that building muscle and losing weight are very important.

BMI isn’t the only factor in your health. But with diabetes a high BMI is just not healthy at all.

The thing is that we have to watch our diet and exercise. This is the core of good health.

As I lost weight my blood sugar levels and blood pressure dropped as well.

So that’s the bottom line….take action and get healthy!

      I appreciate your feedback 🙂

  2. Well I have experience with this, unfortunately.  My wife went up to 260 lbs about 12 years ago and became Diabetic type 2

Since then she has lost 110 lbs and stopped eating many things with sugar in it.  She basically controls her Diabetes with her diet

I like the thought you said that you can snack a lot during the day to maintain blood sugar,, especially the Dark Chocolate.

I got a BMI measurement by a professional, I do not remember the number, but because I had a lot of muscle they told me I am not considered overweight.

    • Hi Phil,

Congratulations to your wife. That’s awesome! Gaining weight is easy. It’s losing it that’s the hard part for sure.

And preventing and controlling diabetes and keeping your BMI in the normal range is all about diet and exercise.

Changing your lifestyle can make a huge difference and your wife is a great example of that 🙂

Once you get in under control, it becomes a new way of life and a healthier one at that.

Glad you are on the healthy side.

I appreciate your comments. Thank you 🙂

  3. Firstly, I love the topic. Some of the information is constantly thrown into our daily routine. What I found very informative and useful are the calculations you have provided! I definitely will use it to help me lose weight. I have a couple of questions about one of the topics in the article. Would it better to discipline yourself with unhealthy snacks? If your workout needs to be simple, shouldn’t you also incorporate weight training into your weight loss plan?

    • Hey Alejandro,

Thank you! BMI is important for your health but especially when you’re a diabetic. It’s vital to know your numbers.

And yes losing weight is the crucial factor with your BMI. It’s not always the easiest thing to do but it sure is the most important!

I would answer yes to disciplining yourself with snacks that aren’t good for you.

And including weight training into your plan for weight loss is another crucial and necessary factor.

      Thank you for sharing 🙂

The site is done quite well using text, images and video to enhance the site. I think you will do quite well with this site. Has really good info on there to help others with the disease and how to prevent it. What gave you the idea that got you into doing a site like this as you did it very well? Good job and keep up the good work!

    • Hey Wayne 🙂

Thank you so much! Since I’ve had the same issue with BMI and I have type 2 diabetes, it seemed only appropriate to do an article on it.

It’s so important to have a normal BMI number especially when you’re a diabetic. Diet and exercise have so much to do with your BMI numbers.

The idea of this site was to help others with blood sugars and diabetes so that they can learn as much as possible in preventing or treating diabetes.

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate it 🙂

  5. I did a quick calculation and please to know that my BMI is 20.6, but that doesn’t take me away from the worries. My mom is small and she has diabetic type 2 so does my aunt and my maternal grandmother. I think it runs in the family so I am taking all the precautions with a healthy lifestyle to prevent the disease from getting to me. It’s a very troublesome disease to live with.

    • Hi Cathy 🙂

First of all a low BMI is definitely in your favor. It’s really important when it comes to diabetes.

But I do understand being concerned that diabetes is in your family.

The best thing you can do is to follow a healthy lifestyle and have your labs done regularly.

Common sense and knowledge will help you.
